Live Like a Local in your Bespoke Collection of Parisian Cafés

Paris is a city loved for its cafés, where the long tradition of sitting out front on outwards-facing chairs and watching the bustling city unfold before your eyes is still very much a Parisian tradition. But Paris’s cafés are so much more than just seats for a spectacle. Many boast not just high-quality food, rivalling the city’s restaurants, but also exciting interior design.

While there are so many more to explore, we’ve selected a small sample of favourites for your own caffeinated adventure through the streets of Paris. See below and more at the end of this article.

Live like a local with this eclectic mix of characterful coffeeshops.

The Hood
Where: 80 Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, 75011

The Hood is a café where good food and good coffee meet in the middle with a range of fresh and healthy options to choose from, including some punchy smoothies. The interior is cosy (but not too small for a piano) and well suited to brunch and lunch – ideal for a quick-stop-eat when you’re out in the 11th arrondissement.

Café Oberkampf
Where: 3 Rue Neuve Popincourt, 75011

Not far from The Hood, Café Oberkampf is another well-worth-it pit stop. Its intimate size, bustling atmosphere and decluttered minimalist make interior are inviting, as are its range of breads, pastries, toasties and excellent coffee. Café Oberkampf is another gem.

Steel Cycle Wear
Where: 58 Rue de la Fontaine au Roi, 75011

Steel Cycle Wear is the Parisian cyclist’s home away from home. Bicycles line the walls, greenery and cycling goods fill the interior. Its coffee is more than enough of a reason to go even if you’re not a cyclist in need of a fuel up.

ONI Coffee Shop
Where: 10 Boulevard Saint-Martin, 75010

Homemade food, coffee, minimalist interior – ONI Coffee Shop has it all you’d want. It also has irresistible deserts to accompany your coffee. ONI Coffee Shop is right around the corner from Place de la République, making it the perfect stop off point when you’re walking in the 10th arrondissement.

Blackburn Coffee
Where: 52 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin, 75010

Not far from ONI Coffee Shop, Blackburn Coffee offers cool, Parisian vibes with high-quality food. Its stripped-down interior has plenty of natural light. And with plenty of goodies inside (artisan coffee, fresh juice, filling brunches and lunches), Blackburn Coffee is a must-visit cafe.

Kaffeebar 19
Where: 26B Rue de l’Ourcq, 75019

Kaffeebar 19 offers more 19th arrondissement experience — Paris’s answer to Hackney of London. The interior is split into two with a mezzanine that overlooks a greenery-filled, cosy main space. All of its beautiful homemade food (including delightful cookies), are prepared in its little kitchen. There’s plenty of seating by the window from which you can watch Paris go by.

Café Odilon
Where: 16 Quai de la Marne, 75019

Not too far from Kaffeebar 19 in the kernel of 19th arrondissement, is Café Odilon. Café Odilon’s fully open front facade, which looks out onto the Canal de l’Ourcq, is the perfect accompaniment to summer vibes. You can also enjoy its views over coffee, a drink, or a wide range of mouthwatering pizzas and savouries in the café’s colourful, retro-meets-modern interior.

Le Pavillon des Canaux
Where: 39 Quai de la Loire, 75019

Le Pavillon des Canaux is a colourful, vintage experience. Once a big house, Le Pavillon des Canaux has been transformed into a cafe that makes use of all the rooms — you can even drink your coffee from a bathtub-turned-table as you look out over Paris’s artificial lake, Bassin de la Villette, in the 19th arrondissement.

So, these are what we have to offer visually so far, but we mean it when we say there are many more cafés to choose from in Paris. If you have more time, or plan to explore different areas, here is an extra handy, back-pocket list. See below.
