Retro Objects are Revitalised in this Nostalgic Series Multidisciplinary graphicer Ajay Karat‘s 13+ years of experience in visual design and prototyping has recently yielded this series of gadgets, featuring all of your favourite half-forgotten, half-fetishised retro electronics. Created as place-cards for a wedding of a friend who requested that ‘musical instruments’ feature, this series perfectly evokes the clattering and tactile music of retro gadgets. It is an affectionate and comprehensive look back for all the nostalgics out there, one that holds particular poignancy for Ajay himself: “In Bangalore, I remember listening to the Morphy Richards radio console that filled our living room, and crowding around the tiny Solidaire TV with my siblings to watch Russian cartoons on Saturday evenings”. Since Ajay’s move to the US, his interest in the retro has been invigorated by a trip to an LA antiques store; since that seminal trip, retro themes have featured in his art as a throwback to his childhood as much as to a golden era of lo-fi technology. With a rich work portfolio, including collaborations with Nexon, NFL, Warner Bros and Disney, Ajay has a created content and visual effects for broadcast television and web; by way of addition, his rough-cut set of graphic illustrations are an ode to the past using the digital tools of the future. Ajay submitted his work to The Plus Paper by reaching out to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you’ve got a project, we’d love to hear from you too!
