HomeArtThe Alternatives Mathew Swarts Creates Distance by Layering his Personal Photographs with Graphs and Mathematical Patterns Spurred on by the freshness and healing power of a new relationship, photographer Mathew Swarts embarked on a new photography project, one that examined his feelings of distance, and disconnection. Through blending his personal photographs with graphs, mathematical patterns, and other imagery that he has accumulated through the years, Mathew created surreal images, which capture confusing emotions, memory and healing. His manipulations result in this hypnotic style, with the optical illusions sometimes leaving the viewer struggling to focus on the subject of each frame. This series, along with his preceding series, Beth, will be on view at Kopeikin Gallery in Los Angeles beginning Feb. 28.
